Friday Evening

Friday evening attendees will have several options to enjoy.  You are encouraged to go and check out the art around Wichita!

  • Those that are tired can relax, stay at the hotel and enjoy the Drury's famous Kick Back reception featuring free food and drinks to hotel guests. Check out the historic mural in the ballroom created by Black Bear Bosin.
  • Find a group of friends and travel to the Wichita Art Museum where you can enjoy live jazz with the Bill Harshbarger Quartet, a cash bar, and view the galleries until 8pm!
  • Check out CityArts- a civic run gallery and art center in Old Town which will remain open until 8pm especially for our attendees.  There are plenty of restaurants nearby once your appetite for art is satisfied!
  • If you prefer a quieter venue, Marilyn Grisham with the Fiber Studio will be open until 9pm.  She is excited to have you visit her!  Marilyn won an arts enhancer award in 2019 and will also host one of the Saturday break out sessions.
  • Walk over with a group to the Keeper of the Plains lighting from 9-9:15pm during daylight savings- this statue by Blackbear Bosin is a must-see!  The four elements come together as the fire drums are lit for fifteen minutes nightly.
  • Rueben Saunders Gallery will stay open from 5-8pm Friday evening especially for KAEA conference attendees!  Check out this premier gallery run by Trish and Bruce VanOsdel, fellow art educators!
  • Gallery 12 on East Douglas, a cooperatively owned gallery with several teachers as members, will stay open until 9pm on Friday evening.
  • Keep checking back here as more activities are added.  Try out one or several!
